My English Language Learning Journey
Living in Singapore, a multi-lingual society, it is important to master English and our own Mother Tongue in order to communicate with people effectively. Knowing the importance of English Language, the Singapore Education System is also skewed to promote such awareness and cultivate an English-speaking environment. Since young, I have been exposed to the art of English Language where we learn grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and summary. From all these that i have learnt, I am able to apply it to real life situations such as interacting with other people and writing an article. However, my language is not very strong, as i do not have a very strong foundation of English Language. This had impeded my ability to express my views freely. After realising its importance, I began to read some self-help books to broaden my horizon and improve on my language. This has certainly improved my English greatly through reading and understanding. Learning English is an on-going process and we should not stop learning from it. I hope that through this English module, I would be able to learn new skills and brush up my vocabulary which will help me to attain a better concept of English Language.

Hi Sam, I think your reflection has a clear introduction, body and conclusion even though there is no distinct paragraphs. I hope you achieve what you want from this module. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Sam, your reflection paragraph is well organised. Each part of your writing is linked closely too. Well done!:)
ReplyDeleteSamantha,
ReplyDeleteContent and organisation: This is a well organised piece of writing. You accurately described the importance of English in Singapore, your ability in using English and your learning process. However, it would be good to also consider including an example of an experience you encounter.
1. Use of article 'the' before English language in your writing.
Do you know when to use 'the' and when to use no article?
Is there any difference between 'the English language' and 'English'?
2. Since young, I have been exposed to the art of English Language where we learn grammar, vocabulary,
3. See if you can rewrite this sentence so that the main topic is at the front of the sentence. Try rewording the part in quotation marks.
'From all these that i have learnt, I am able to apply it to real life situations' such as interacting with other people and writing an article.
4. Think about the use of commas here.
However, my language is not very strong, as i do not have a very strong foundation of English Language.
5. Think about the use of 'has' and 'had'.
has = present perfect tense
had = past perfect tense
This had impeded my ability to express my views freely.
6. Again, think about the main topic of the sentence.
What is the function of 'This' is your sentence?
What is the function of 'reading and understanding'?
This has certainly improved my English greatly through reading and understanding.
